Female sarpanch picks up lathi, leads women to curb cheating in schools

With the wave of Board exam cheating reports coursing through the state of Haryana, the police and the Board for School Education, Haryana (BSEH) have been more or less helpless to stop it. 

However, Bhiwani district's sarpanch Sunita, hailing from Dhanana village, has picked up the lathi to help stop this menace. Sunita stood outside the village school along with other women bearing lathis in order to check cheating in the examination centre.
 "Students may pass the exams by cheating, but they would not be able to make a career in future. They may remain unemployed in future if they cheat now and I don't want the children of my village to be unemployed," said the sarpanch, according to an HT report. Sunita's move was supported by other women in the village, who came forward to assist her in curbing the practice of cheating in the examinations.
 Nihal Singh, the school principal, hailed the "brilliant initiative" taken by the women and said, "It's only because of them that the cheating cases in our school have completely vanished." Bahadur Singh, a member of the flying commission employed to root out cheating practices, gave a nod to Sunita's move and said that if other women of Haryana also came forward to stop the unfair means used in examinations, the cheating practice could soon be rooted out from schools.
 Sarpanch Sunita has also been conducting a weekly cleanliness campaign in her village every Sunday, with the involvement of local residents, for which she was appreciated by the administration earlier.
